The Lighting Controls Association has published a new offering in its popular Education Express system, EE306: Introduction to Home Automation.
Home automation is technology that enables homeowners to integrate, manage, monitor, and control their lighting, shading, HVAC, security, entertainment, electric-vehicle charging, circuit breakers, and appliances. Solutions range from standalone devices to scalable systems allowing homeowners to control the entire home from a centralized platform. The primary benefit is comfort, convenience, and lifestyle enhancement through customized automation, with additional benefits such as lower energy costs, reduced carbon footprint, and enhanced security.
Authored by C. Webster Marsh, this course provides an overview of options available in the residential market and a breakdown of recommended best practices. It also reviews the functionality of residential systems, their benefits and challenges, and how to integrate them with home automation.
This course is registered with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education System (CES) and recognized by the National Council on Quality in the Lighting Professions (NCQLP). It is required reading to prepare for NALMCO’s Certified Lighting Controls Professional (CLCP) exam and is recognized by the DesignLights Consortium (DLC) for advancing knowledge of networked lighting controls technology and application.
