As part of a new Lighting Controls Association series of short articles providing an in-depth introduction to new products, Craig DiLouie talked to Anthony Lee, Head of Product, SENSORWORX, about the company’s recently introduced SWX-970 Advanced Wireless Load Controller.
DiLouie: Please describe your new product!
Lee: A SENSORWORX advanced wireless load controller is the mobile app access point expanding the capabilities of a SENSORWORX wireless room to include scenes, time and astronomical based schedules, and device configurability via a mobile device application. These advanced features are in addition to the device’s basic switching and dimming capabilities. The companion SENSORWORX mobile application enables an Android or iOS mobile device to create and modify wireless zones, set-up custom scenes and schedules, and remotely configure device settings.
As with all SENSORWORX products, these devices are easy to install and incorporate features which reduce contractor labor time. An elongated chase nipple with snaps for quick installation and simple programming make for a hassle-free contractor experience. All SENSORWORX products are proudly made in the USA.
DiLouie: What problems does this new product solve for lighting controls practitioners?
Lee: The big problem this product solves is complexity in deployment. By narrowing in on the capabilities of a room, it integrates advanced features in a simple to install and program device. The SWX-970 is not an additional component to the SENSORWORX wireless lineup but an enhancement on the SWX-950 by adding the capabilities plus maintaining a relay and 0-10V output. This approach adds no additional installation cost or time.
Configuring the system can still be done via our Push-to-Pair and push-to-configure for simple systems, while our new app allows for more advanced configurations. With a simple UI. Available for both iOS and Android.
DiLouie: What otherwise makes this a standout product among this year’s offering by the lighting control industry?
Lee: We are Made in America by default, our products are built and assembled in our Wallingford, CT facility since 2017. We have recently expanded factory floor by 10,000ft2, more than doubling our throughput.
The device itself provides advanced features often seen in networked systems, but brings it to the room level.
DiLouie: What applications does this product serve?
Lee: All indoor office and school applications can easily be served by this device and the SENSORWORX Wireless system. By using a proprietary 915Mhz system we can ensure security in our protocol, penetrate distances of 80 ft, and have minimal interference on that communication band.
DiLouie: How does this product fit in your company’s overall control offering?
Lee: The SWX-970 expands our capabilities in the wireless world and carries us forward to bringing these enhancements in lighting controls to a wired system.
DiLouie: What is your company’s philosophy regarding new product development?
Lee: The SWX-970 supports our continued values to design products that are simple to install by contractors and intuitive to operate by our end users. It reinforces our vision to be the brand known for performance, convenience, and quality, all while embodying MADE IN AMERICA manufacturing.
DiLouie: How is the product installed?
Lee: This product installs identically to our SWX-950 series of products via a ½ inch KO. In addition to KO mounting for Class 1, we have an innovative offering of a Low Voltage Wiring Chamber for adding enclosed Knock-outs for Class 2 conduiting.
DiLouie: How is it configured and used?
Lee: Configuring the system can still be done via our Push-to-Pair and push-to-configure for simple systems, while our new app allows for more advanced configurations. With a simple UI. Available for both iOS and Android.
