In the ever-evolving landscape of lighting control systems, the key to their successful maintenance lies not just in technological interoperability but also in continuous education. In this episode of The Lighting Controls Podcast presented by the Lighting Controls Association and supported by NAILD, Chesapeake Lighting’s Kelly Gallagher emphasizes this crucial point, stressing that without adequate knowledge, even the most advanced systems can falter.
Kelly, who resides in the DC metro area, brings a wealth of experience to the table. Beginning his career as an electrician with IBEW Local 26, he gained hands-on experience in installing lighting controls. His transition to Lutron as a field service technician further honed his skills, where he witnessed firsthand the transformative power of a properly functioning system. Subsequently, he joined Chesapeake Lighting, leveraging his expertise to serve as an outside specification salesperson.
Addressing the issue, Kelly highlights a scenario where a facilities manager departs after five years, leaving behind a successor unfamiliar with the intricacies of the lighting system and lacking proper contacts for assistance. Consequently, the system underperforms, leading to dissatisfaction and complaints directed towards the installation company. It’s a lose-lose situation for all parties involved. In a bid to address these challenges, Kelly advocates for involving sales representatives from the inception of projects to long after the buildings are occupied. By fostering a collaborative approach and emphasizing the importance of education, sales reps can play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of lighting control systems, thereby maximizing their efficiency and longevity.
