Lutron Electronics recently announced its Lutron Connect Bridge and App now supports Apple HomeKit technology. The alliance gives homeowners even greater flexibility by allowing them to control their Lutron lighting and shade systems remotely using the Apple Home app, voice-directed Siri® and third-party HomeKit apps on their iPhone® or iPad®.
Lutron RadioRA 2 and HomeWorks QS systems can be controlled from anywhere inside or outside the home using system keypads, the Lutron Connect app, the Lutron Pico remote control, Amazon Alexa, and select third-party devices. Now, thanks to the integration of Apple HomeKit with the Lutron Connect Bridge and App – the essential links between RadioRA 2 and HomeWorks QS systems and the Lutron cloud – homeowners can select up to 99 Lutron devices (lights and shades) to be controlled through the Apple Home app, Siri, and third-party HomeKit apps on iPhones and iPads. An Apple TV is required to control accessories remotely.
Third-party apps can build “scenes,” grouping actions together that incorporate Lutron products and other third-party devices. Homeowners can recall those scenes through HomeKit with a simple voice command. For example, telling Siri to turn on “Good Morning” could activate hallway and kitchen lights, while raising bedroom shades to just the right height to let the sun in. With HomeKit, homeowners can also set lighting and shade levels to preferred percentages.
RadioRA 2 and HomeWorks QS offer whole-home control of lights, shades and temperature, and the Lutron Connect Bridge and App deliver enhanced functionality for the connected home. The HomeKit-enabled version of the Lutron Connect Bridge (CONNECT-BDG2-1) is available now through Lutron authorized dealers with a suggested retail price of $299.
The free Lutron Connect App, required for configuration of voice control, can be downloaded from The App Store® for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
