Universal Lighting Technologies has earned a certificate of recognition from the State of Tamaulipas Environmental Agency (AADST) in Mexico. The award recognizes the company’s successful completion of AADST’s Voluntary Compliance Environmental Audit at the Universal manufacturing facility in Matamoros.

The audit is designed to ensure legal compliance as well as the best environmental practices. During their review, state auditors reported excellent coordination in the areas of equipment maintenance, energy conservation, and other factors. Universal Lighting Technologies, owned by Panasonic Electric Works, is committed to environmental protection. Participation in this voluntary program is in alignment with the overall objectives of the Panasonic Clean Factory goals in pursuit of ISO 14001.

“Universal is known for its high efficiency lighting technology, and as a company we are committed to environmentally sustainable operations,” said Luis Buentello, senior vice president of human resources and safety for Universal. “We’re honored to receive this award as recognition of our efforts to preserve the environment. We thank the entire Matamoros staff for fulfilling the commitments made in the audit.”

As a result of the company’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability, Universal is now in the running for the 2011 State Environmental Excellence award.
