This month, we will explore the role that advanced lighting controls, including wireless solutions, play at P2S Engineering, Inc.’s renovated offices. This innovative design includes wavy walls, grazed floor to ceiling with warm white light and a single woven wall backlit with LEDs. Cool color temperature cove lighting provides needed contrast and general illumination for the elevator lobby. Space was limited and fixture placement was essential in eliminating harsh shadows and achieving the desired effects.
Environmentally friendly LED fixtures are integrated into architectural elements to provide both style and function. Adjustable LED fixtures are strategically placed in the floating metal ceiling to match the receptionist desk radius below.
Linear LED cove fixtures uniformly illuminate the ceiling, while individually adjustable LEDs illuminate the glare free task area.
Conference and training rooms are illuminated with occupant comfort in mind. Fixtures were selected for their uniqueness and ability to efficiently illuminate the space, while reducing glare and increasing uniformity.
Task/ambient design strategy employs high efficiency volumetric luminaires spaced to maximize power density, while maintaining optimal uniformity throughout the open office.
As a cost savings measure, recycled fixtures were utilized and retrofitted with energy saving ballasts. Equipped with 010V dimming, fixtures react to available daylight to maintain target light levels.
Dimmable LED task fixtures enable users to adjust light levels to the performed task and are equipped with automatic shutoff.
Digital lighting controls are utilized throughout the office and integrate time-based controls with touch screens, occupancy sensors, photocells,and digital wall switches. For added flexibility, virtual wall controls on computer desktops, smartphones, and personal handheld devices enable the users to adjust light levels remotely.
Wireless relay modules are integrated into pendant mounted light fixtures which are controlled by battery-free switches utilizing kinetic energy.
Innovative lighting control strategies contributed to the reduced lighting power consumption of 38% below that allowed by Title 24 and allowed the design to achieve LEED Gold Certification.
