Lutron Electronics has announced that its original Sivoia automated shading system was one of five products inducted into the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) Product Hall of Fame, as announced in September in Indianapolis. Automated shading systems offer the convenience of one-button control (including open, closed and preset levels) of every window treatment in a room or entire home. Since its initial introduction, the original Sivoia product line has been expanded to include both wired and wireless versions of automated roller shades, Roman shades, vertical and horizontal draperies and Venetian blinds, all which can be easily installed in any new or existing home. Lutron’s HomeWorks system was inducted into the Product Hall of Fame in 2008, followed by its RadioRA system in 2009. Lutron is the only company with three products in the Hall of Fame.

Watt Stopper Announces First 0-10V Wallbox Controller with Wireless RF Capability and Occupancy Sensor Input

WattStopperWatt Stopper/Legrand has launched a versatile 0-10 volt wall box controller that can be used to dim or switch lighting loads or raise and lower shades. The DRLV1 controller is the first such device to include an input allowing automatic control by an occupancy sensor when used for lighting control. The device is RF-enabled and is also the first 0-10 volt wall box controller that can be incorporated into a wireless scene control system.

The DRLV1 is part of Watt Stopper’s line of Miro® Controls, which includes wireless RF dimmers and scene controls. Wireless Miro reduces the cost and complexity of new and retrofit projects by eliminating control wiring and the need for a central processor. Miro is ideal for applications including offices, meeting rooms, lobbies, restaurants, galleries, hotels, retail stores and houses of worship.

The DRLV1 is primarily used to dim compatible 0-10 volt fluorescent dimming ballasts, and can provide 1% dimming when used with T5 HO lamps, a commonly specified source for indirect lighting. It may also be used to control selected LED lighting. The device, which works in conjunction with a Watt Stopper power pack, can control up to 100 ballasts, a greater capacity than most controllers. Additionally, the power pack may be used to power an occupancy sensor which, when connected to the controller adds code-compliant automatic shut off. Other RF-enabled Miro devices may be used to remotely control the DRLV1 for wireless multi-location control and/or scene control.

The new controller also expands the capability of Watt Stopper’s Miro Controls beyond just lighting control. Increasingly, designers are integrating window shades or projection screens with lighting controls. In shade control mode, the controllers raise and lower compatible line voltage shade motors. Shades or screens wired to the DRLV1 may be included in lighting scenes with other RF-enabled Miro devices.

Lutron’s Flagship Lighting Control System Inducted into the CEDIA Product Hall of Fame

Lutron Electronics has announced that its HomeWorks® whole-home lighting control system was one of only eight products inducted into the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) Product Hall of Fame.

The appointment was announced during the 2008 CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles® Awards banquet on Saturday, Sept. 6, in Denver, CO.

According to CEDIA, the Product Hall of Fame was developed to show the origins of the residential electronics industry and track the progression of product development and technology. The Product Hall of Fame Showcase will be introduced at the 2009 CEDIA Expo in Atlanta, GA. Inducted products will be on display at all future Expos.

The CEDIA community was first introduced to the HomeWorks system in the early 1990s, when Lutron created the category of whole-home lighting control systems. It’s been widely accepted by residential system installers as the most reliable, robust lighting control system on the market.

“We are honored to have received this designation,” said Andy Wakefield, Director of Lutron’s Home Systems Business Unit. “It’s a remarkable accomplishment to be recognized as a foundation of this industry. We’re especially thankful to our loyal dealers, some of whom have been with us since day one. Their feedback and commitment to Lutron have made HomeWorks the product it is today.”

Since the early 1990s, Lutron has dramatically expanded the capabilities of HomeWorks by continually launching innovative, new products, including a totally wireless version of the system that is known for its reliability; a line of backlit, seeTouch® keypads; energy-saving green features and more.

To further expand the lighting control category for its dealers, Lutron introduced an automated shade and drapery system that can be controlled via HomeWorks keypads, allowing homeowners to control every point of natural and artificial light in their home with the press of a button.

Lutron Electronics Expands Sivoia QED® Technology within Residential Market

Lutron Electronics Expands Sivoia QED® Technology within Residential MarketLutron Electronics Co., Inc. is extending the reach of its signature Sivoia QED(R) shading technology into homes with the introduction of the Sivoia QED Roller 20(TM) shade system.

The new Roller 20 shade system offers all of the benefits of Lutron’s patented Sivoia QED technology—including quiet, precision movement of shades—but it also has an ultra-slim profile and narrow width, making it perfectly suited for mounting within most, smaller residential window frames.

With this production addition, homeowners can blend the most advanced, digitally controllable shading technology seamlessly into the design of their homes.

“This is a noteworthy moment for residential design and convenience,” said Stacey Shetter Kim, Market Development Manager for Lutron, “With the Sivoia QED Roller 20 shade system, most homeowners can now enjoy the unique advantages of the Sivoia QED technology that they can’t get from any other shading system.”

Lutron’s new Roller 20 shading system enhances a home’s spaces while providing convenient daylight control at the touch of a button. The elegantly styled keypads and controls give users intuitive control of the shades. Roller 20 also offers a variety of fabric options to enhance a home’s décor.

The key to this addition to Lutron’s Sivoia QED product line is its small size, made possible with the inclusion of a tube that has a diameter measuring only 1.25 inches, and a smaller drive that allows the shades to be smaller in width (a minimum of 18.5 inches). Lutron believes Roller 20 is the world’s smallest precision controllable shading system.

Sivoia QED Roller 20 can be installed with a 2.75-inch top/back cover and fascia for a clean, minimal look. Square and curved fascia are available in white, bronze and anodize aluminum.

Lutron Electronics Introduces First Truly Convertible Manual Shade

Lutron Electronics has designed the industry’s most adaptable manual shade as a part of the Sivoia family of shading solutions. The Sivoia family of products now creates a visually seamless solution for mixed-use spaces that require both manual and electronic shades. Ideal for both commercial and residential applications, the new Sivoia Manual Shades share hardware with Sivoia QED roller 64™ for easy conversion from manual to electronic control, maintaining the system’s smooth and quiet operation. Converting the Sivoia Manual Shade to a Sivoia QED™ electronic shade is as easy as pulling off the manual clutch and inserting a Sivoia QED roller 64 drive.

With the ability to convert to electronic control at any point in a project, designers can specify and install one set of hardware and then adapt it to manual or electronic control, depending on the user’s needs. Pre-wiring for electronic shades provides ease-of-installation when Sivoia Manuals are converted to Sivoia QED electronic shades. The system installs in a 3.5” x 3.5” pocket and works on the roller 64 1 3/8” diameter tube and lineals with an upgraded universal mounting bracket. The same bracket can be used for the wall, ceiling or jamb installation, and can also be shipped separately for rough-in, providing flexibility.

Manual Control

The easily convertible manual shades begin with easy installation. With its universal, multi-position clutch and spring-loaded idler, the shades can quickly be re-positioned on site for bottom, front or back chain drop to adapt to specific project requirements

The manuals system uses a patent-pending force reduction system that makes it easy to lift even large manual shades. Uniquely designed, the system upholds the smooth feel and quietness of electronic shades. It has been developed with a patent-pending chain guide system that uses a series of symmetrical wheels to automatically position the chain. This reduces drag and provides a smooth, consistent feel throughout the entire movement of the shade without noise created by the chain or friction on the idler.

Sivoia Manual Shades ensure uniform window coverage with symmetrical light gaps of as little as 3/4” between the roller shade and its window frame. All Sivoia Manual Shades can be specified with the full line of Lutron fabrics, including SheerShade™, SheerShade Designer™, Privacy and Blackout fabrics to suit any application.
