LCA TV: WattStopper Intelligent Building Strategies

This short video, produced by the Lighting Controls Association at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR event, introduces the building industry to WattStopper’s intelligent building strategies based on the company’s Digital Lighting Management (DLM) product line.

An all-digital suite of plug-together lighting controls, DLM automatically configures to the most energy-efficient sequence of operation based on installed components. The result is that DLM meets and exceeds energy code requirements, saves more energy than conventional controls, and provides an unprecedented return on investment for both new construction and retrofit projects.

With DLM, each room or space in a building has its own control network where the installer simply connects room controllers, occupancy sensors, switches and photocells as needed. Plug n’ Go technology then recognizes what is connected and automatically configures the space to the most energy efficient operation. For instance, advanced controls strategies such as automatic-on of 50% of lighting with manual-on of the remaining 50% automatically configure when appropriate DLM components are connected. Other DLM innovations include LCD screens on occupancy sensors for ease of setup, as well as a handheld bidirectional configuration tool that provides ladder-free system setup or adjustment. Because DLM uses Cat 5e RJ45 cables to connect components, time-consuming installation activities, such as interpreting wiring diagrams, setting DIP switches, and terminating low voltage wires, are eliminated. This speeds up installation and eliminates the potential for wiring errors.

DLM also offers integration of plug load control, allowing building owners to further leverage code-compliant occupancy sensors and realize greater savings. Most recently, the company expanded the DLM offering with components that allow quick and easy networking of room-based controls and lighting control panels for centralized monitoring, control and programming.

LCA TV: Leviton Wireless Self-Powered Lighting Control Products

This short video, produced by the Lighting Controls Association at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR event, introduces the building industry to Leviton Manufacturing Company’s wireless radio-frequency self-powered lighting control products.

Leviton’s LevNet RF™ line of wireless energy management devices integrates Leviton’s design and performance with EnOcean’s wireless control technology. With no wires to run, the family of LevNet RF devices reduces labor and material costs and takes only minutes to configure. Once installed, LevNet RF devices can be used in virtually any commercial retrofit environment to control energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions.

LevNet RF wireless control devices meet a wide range of application requirements in addition to occupancy detection. Devices can be used for single-pole On/Off switching, multi-location switching, HVAC control, motor control and more. The family of products includes: 1) Wireless Sensors and Companion Wall Switch and Remote Receivers; 2) Remote Switches for Lighting and Temperature Control; 3) SLT Circuit Interlock and 4-Channel Transmitters; 4) 3- and 5-Way Line Voltage Relay Receivers; 5) Plug-In Dimmer and ON/OFF Relay Receivers; and, 6) 2-, 3- and 4-Channel Room Receivers, 2-Channel Shade Controller, and 4-and 8-Channel Relay Receivers. Accessories such as an RS-232 Signal Box Data Interface and Signal Strength Meter extend the functionality of the devices.

LevNet RF self-powered transmitters do not require external power and there are no batteries or components to replace or maintain. Devices are interoperable and can interact with other devices on the LevNet RF wireless network.

Ideally suited to achieve energy savings in hospitality applications, the LevNet RF Key Card Switch signals a room’s electrical and HVAC controllers to automatically turn lights off and set-back the HVAC system when guests leave their rooms. It turns lighting back on and adjusts temperature controls when guests re-enter using the Key Card. Levnet RF’s innovative Wireless Thermostat receives signals from transmitting devices such as LevNet RF occupancy sensors or the LevNet RF Card Switch and adjusts temperature controls when occupancy is detected.

LevNet RF occupancy sensors use artificial light and switch products use kinetic energy to power themselves, further adding to energy savings. LevNet RF transmitters and receivers can send and receive signals from 50-150 feet in range. Products come with a 3-Year Limited Warranty, and have a performance lifespan of over 20 years. All devices are NAFTA- and Buy America Act compliant.

LCA TV: Outdoor Lighting Fixture Controller by GE

This short video, produced by the Lighting Controls Association at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR event, introduces the building industry to a new outdoor lighting controller by GE Lighting Controls. The new controller provides both ON/OFF and dimming to save energy and, due to cooler operation, may also extend LED service life.

LCA TV: P Series Remote Network Lighting Control by PLC Multipoint

This short video, produced by the Lighting Controls Association at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR event, introduces the building industry to the P-Series lighting control system by PLC Buildings, a division of PLC Multipoint.

The P-Series is a multiplex transmission Full-2Way remote lighting control system. It uses just two ±24 V signal wires for all the switches on a network, and controls lighting using latching relays. This reduces the number of wires needed compared to conventional remote control wiring.

LCA TV: Polaris 3D Energy Management Software by Encelium

This short video, produced by the Lighting Controls Association at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR event, introduces the building industry to Polaris 3D by Encelium Technologies, the company’s next generation of lighting control software for the Energy Control System™.

This new software offers users a single 360°, three-dimensional navigation in a multi-floor view, permitting faster and easier navigation to a desired control zone with the ability to see an entire facility or complex in a convenient 3D snapshot.

Utilizing Microsoft’s Silverlight technology, Polaris 3D will permit access to the system via a simple web browser, eliminating the need for software installation, resulting in increased security, faster set-up and start times, and easier integration with other web-based building control systems. Polaris 3D also provides a colorized thermo-graphic representation of system parameters for lighting status, power consumption, light levels; occupancy status; load shedding status; and comparative energy trends.

Schneider Electric marketing director Tim Perek introduces the company’s energy management lighting control solutions, which can produce significant energy savings in commercial buildings.

LCA TV: Lutron PowPak Load Controllers

This short video, produced by the Lighting Controls Association at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR event, introduces the building industry to Lutron Electronics’ PowPak load controllers.

These innovative control devices mount to a junction box or lighting fixture, and communicate with Radio Powr Savr® (RPS) sensors and Pico® wireless controls via Lutron reliable Clear Connect™ Radio Frequency (RF) technology. They are part of the new Energi TriPak® family of products that sense, control and adjust to save energy in a space. Benefits include easy installation, simple setup and the ability to reduce lighting energy consumption by up to 60%.

PowPak load controllers install easily to a standard junction box knock-out and communicate to Radio Powr Savr sensors and Pico wireless controls. Occupancy/vacancy sensors automatically control lights based on user presence, while Pico controls allow users to customize their lighting at the touch of a button. Daylight sensors further increase energy savings by reducing electricity consumption when sufficient daylight is available. The PowPak load controllers are ideal for retrofit applications of classrooms, private offices, conference rooms and other single area spaces that are looking for a cost-effective solution to lighting control. In addition, the PowPak® load controllers provide the opportunity to meet or contribute to national or regional codes and standards.
