Good news: Lighting professionals have three new opportunities for continuing education, thanks to Universal Lighting Technologies and its award-winning e-Learning Center. Online classes are now available on DEMANDflex™ lighting ballasts, DCL® Controls, and DCL Component Selection and Installation.
The e-Learning Center is designed to educate lighting contractors, distributors and end users about the latest lighting technologies, and most courses qualify for continuing education credits through professional certification organizations such as NAED, NALMCO, and NCQLP. The three new courses on DCL technology are now available online free of charge to anyone involved in the lighting industry who wants to remain on the cutting edge of energy management and lighting control capabilities.
To sign up for the e-Learning Center, visit Universal Lighting Technologies online at www.unvlt.com and click the square e-Learning Center icon in the center of the page. The three new courses are listed in the “DCL Training” section. Each course features user-friendly point-and-click navigation so students can learn at their own pace, at their own computers, and at the time most convenient for them.
In the DEMANDflex ballast course, students will learn what “tuning” is and how it works. DEMANDflex ballasts have the unique ability to be individually tuned during installation to the proper power level (ballast factor) for the application. By matching the power level to the specific need, installers can prevent the common problem of wasting energy on over-lighting.
In the DCL Controls course, students will learn the capabilities of DCL technology, whether it is used for stand-alone lighting control or integrated into a building automation system. This includes an overview of DCL components and an in-depth look at how circuit-level communication works in a lighting control system.
In the DCL component selection and installation course, students will learn how to optimize the energy-saving benefits of DCL technology by selecting the best components and control options for the application. Topics also include circuits and circuit-level communication, installation procedures, and commissioning.
Recently named “Product of the Year” in the lighting control category by EC&M magazine, DCL Control Systems provide unmatched energy management capabilities. Only DCL technology allows facility owners and managers to control power levels to lighting fixtures in one-percent increments from full to 50-percent power without the need for expensive control wires. Power levels can be controlled manually or automated by scheduling software, occupancy sensors, or photocells for daylight harvesting. Ideal for new construction or retrofit projects, DCL Control Systems are slashing monthly power bills for retail stores, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, educational facilities, and more.
With a DCL Control System, these facilities can also opt into a demand response program where the local utility company has the ability to reduce power levels to the building’s lighting fixtures in order to reduce stress on the area’s electrical grid in times of peak demand. Minimizing energy consumption during peak hours when electrical rates are at their highest can result in significant cost savings, whether the facility is part of a demand response program or is acting on its own.
