The Lighting Controls Association (LCA) has announced the availability of EE204: Hi-Bay Lighting Upgrades, a new course added to its popular Education Express program. Residing at the Association’s website, Education Express provides in-depth education about lighting controls and controllable ballast technology, application, system design and commissioning, as well as meta-issues such as LEED, energy codes and other trends.
Probe-start metal halide fixtures are a common workhorse in hi-bay applications such as factories, warehouses, big-box stores and gyms, but are also the least energy-efficient. As a result, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 is expected to virtually eliminate probe-start fixtures starting in 2009, forcing a choice between more-efficient pulse-start metal halide and fluorescent hi-bay fixtures. In addition, replacing probe-start with fluorescent has become one of the hottest lighting retrofit markets, as fluorescent can deliver comparable light levels and up to 50+% energy savings.
EE204: Hi-Bay Lighting Upgrades, authored by lighting industry educator and journalist Craig DiLouie, describes pulse-start metal halide and T5HO and T8 fluorescent options, with detailed information about how to maximize energy savings and lighting’s utility using appropriate controls.
At the conclusion of the course, an optional online comprehension test is available, with automatic grading; a passing grade enables the student to claim education credit. EE204: Hi-Bay Lighting Upgrades is accredited/registered with the National Council on Quality in the Lighting Professions (NCQLP), which recognizes 4 LEUs towards maintenance of Lighting Certified (LC) certification; the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), which recognizes 0.4 CEUs towards maintenance of its Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) certification; and the interNational Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO), which recognizes 15 Education Points towards maintenance of its Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) certification.
